i don't like the word "milquetoast." i like it less when people misapply it. in describing a picture of a woman shaking hands with a man, wearing a colorful shirt and smiling in a friendly, assertive way, he said that she was "too milquetoast." she can't be milquetoast. to be milquetoast, she would have to be cowering away from the man or introverted-looking. she doesn't look meek. she looks chic. after the discussion over the milquetoastyness of said woman, Bossman said that the man in the photo reminded him of Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.
